Founder's Story
Built by a musician, for musicians
"I wanted an app that trains ears the way musicians really need. As a pianist and Barry Harris protégé, I've spent years helping students develop their listening. But no app combined the step-by-step clarity beginners need with the depth serious jazz players crave. That's why I built Earonman."
Platform Features
Every exercise plays a Petrof III grand recorded at Baracca Records. Eight instruments in all - Rhodes, strings, harp, guitar and more - so you train the timbre you actually play.
Lessons arrive as a conversation with Dr. Earmond Sharp, who explains the theory behind what you are hearing and asks you to prove it before moving on.
One guided path from a perfect fifth to polychords, in eighteen sections. Each level introduces exactly one new thing, so you are never asked to hear something you were not taught.
Open Mic listens through the microphone and hears the note. Sing it, or play it on the instrument in your hands - the surest proof you truly heard the interval, not just recognised it.
Distance, Stack, Key, Motion and Outside. Intervals and chords through to guide tones, roman numerals, upper structures and polychords - each one a different way of listening.
Build chords note by note, in the spirit of the Barry Harris approach and other systems - the mode that teaches you the shape of harmony rather than its label.
Challenge another musician to the same set of questions and see who hears better. Asynchronous, so neither of you has to be online at the same time.
Every week you are placed with musicians training at your pace. Finish near the top and you move up; a real ladder, not a vanity score.
Practice Mode drops the lives, the timer and the XP so you can drill one troublesome interval as long as you like. Free on every account.
Ear Coins come from training, not from your wallet. Spend them on instruments, streak freezes, XP boosts, and Timbres that re-skin the entire app.
Connect a MIDI keyboard in the browser and answer by playing the voicing. Your fingers and ears learn the shape together.
Free apps for iOS and Android carry the same account and the same progress. Train on the bus, pick it up on the desktop.
Earonman Studio assigns homework to a class and shows you who actually did it and what they struggle with. Live, for teachers and schools.
52 levels and Practice Mode without paying anything - 3 exercises every 8 hours, enough for a daily habit. Pro removes the cooldown and opens the other 165 levels.
